Obituary for Ronald Melvin Herman

In loving memory of Ronald Herman, 86 years, who passed away courageously yet peacefully Tuesday, February 25th, 2020 at Health Sciences North with his loving daughter at his side. Loving son of Irma and Wilbur Herman and brother of Shirley McClellan (Tatter), all predeceased. Brother-in-law of Barbara Calvert (Jim Calvert, predeceased) of Azilda. Ron was a devoted husband for 52 years to the light of his life, Fran, predeceased 2009. Beloved Dad to Stacy (Phill Bernier) of Sudbury and Ron of Renfrew. Proud Grandpa to James and Connor McNeil (Alyssa Fortin), both of Sudbury as well as Stephanie Herman (Curtis Delaney) of Ottawa and Lindsey Herman (Ethan Hitchcock) of Toronto. Great Grandfather to Nora and Rodrick McNeil and Brixton Delaney.

Ron was a quiet, principled man who instilled the values of honesty, fairness and having a good work ethic into his children. He set high standards for himself, whether it was keeping his driveway shoveled down to bare pavement, keeping his car immaculate, or making sure every blade of grass in the yard was trimmed.
His attention to detail applied to his personal appearance as well, earning him the nickname of ‘Smooth Ron’ in high school. Many happy years were spent at the family camp on Fairbank Lake. In later years Ron was happiest just being at home with Fran. Although we will miss you terribly, knowing you are finally back together with Mom (cracking a beer and having a gab) brings a smile to all of us!

As per Ron’s wishes, no visitation or funeral. Interment at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Walden followed by a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. The family would also like to thank the staff of the Emergency department, who gave him great care under extremely challenging circumstances. Heartfelt thanks as well to the staff of the Cardiac Medical Unit at HSN, and Dr. Borkovitch who were so caring and compassionate to both Ron and Stacy. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Petsave would be gratefully accepted. Arrangements entrusted to Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, www.lougheed.org.
