Daryl passed away suddenly after a stroke on Saturday, January 11th, 2020 at Health Sciences North surrounded by his family.
Beloved husband of 34 years of Sylvia (nee Langen). Loving and devoted father of Amelia Munn (Matthew), Anna Kretzschmar and Holly Sparks (Steven). Adored Grandpa of Holly and Harrison Munn. Predeceased by his fur daughter Dolly. Predeceased by his parents Jack & Sally Kretzschmar (nee Burkholder) and mother-in-law Bertha Langen. Cherished brother of John “Jack” (Carol) and twin sister Darlene Kretzschmar. He will be sadly missed by his aunt Joan Kretzschmar from New Jersey, the Langen family; Allan (Lorraine), Diane Frenette (Roger predeceased), Marie Beaulieu (Rick), Jocelyn McIlvenna (Robert), Dolores Gagnon predeceased (Roger wife Carmen), Ken (Carol), Helen MacLean (Brian), Anita Couchie (Brian), Elaine Horne (Bill), Lisa Murdock (Brendan) and Doreen Hope (Eugene). He will also be sadly missed by nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends.
Daryl was born on May 10th, 1961 in Marietta, Georgia. He came to Canada as a toddler, and settled in Valley East where he remained as a resident. He was a Laurentian University graduate in economics. He was the proud owner of PPE Solutions in the fire service industry where he made a lot of lifelong friends. Daryl had a passion for hockey and played all his life up until last year with the same friends, many of them having played together since the 1970s. He made a lot of happy memories and will be sadly missed by his hockey community. He enjoyed skidooing, golfing, kayaking with his family, and became a recent motorcycle enthusiast. He was so proud of his family, his wife and best friend Sylvia, who he referred to as his “Trophy Wife”, his 3 daughters and son-in-laws, and his precious grandchildren who brought him great joy.
Visitation at the Lougheed Funeral Home Hanmer/Capreol Chapel (4605 Michelle Drive, Hanmer) Friday, January 17th, 2020 from 2-5 & 7-9 pm. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2020 at the Centennial Arena (4333 Centennial Drive, Hanmer) starting at 11:00 am.
Daryl had chosen to be an organ donor and was able to give the gift of life through donating his organs. The family is proud that Daryl chose to give this precious gift that will help save many lives. Donations to the Valley East Renegades (in support of youth hockey) would be appreciated by the family.
