Obituary

In loving memory
of
Gerald “Jerry” Joseph Gereghty
88 years.
Passed away peacefully in the afternoon of
Monday, January 6th, 2020 at Extendicare York.

Jerry leaves his wife of over 60 years Huguette (nee Tremblay); four children, Robert (Kelli Skwark), Joanne, Michelle (Kent Reinecke) and Denise (Steven Oakes); and five grandchildren, Cole, Madison, Bailey, Brookyn and Darby.

Jerry had a lifelong interest and passion for geophysics that included
a 31 year career with INCO’s exploration department, as well as numerous independent exploration projects. He was recognized for his 50 years in mining and exploration by the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum in 2015 and was a lifetime member of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada. Jerry enjoyed travelling to and living and working in undeveloped and unexplored regions of Canada’s north. In true “prospector” fashion, he never gave up the dream of finding the big one!

Over the past year Jerry was a resident at Health Sciences North and Extendicare York. The family thanks all those who provided care and consideration for Jerry during his stay at both facilities.

Funeral service in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home (233 Larch Street, Sudbury) on Thursday, January 16th, 2020 at 11:30 a.m. Friends may gather after 10:00 a.m. on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Health Sciences North Foundation or charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Dear Huguette and family. I am very saddened to hear of Jerry's passing. My deepest sympathies are extended to all of you. I remember Jerry as a very "gentle" man who cared deeply for his family. I picture him at family gatherings over the years, always smiling and enjoying the company of his many aunts, uncles, cousins and their families. I am glad my mother Betty and I had a chance to visit with Jerry at Health Sciences North in September. His was a life well lived and he will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known him.

Fondest memories of your dad through all our swimming years and years of growing up together in Copper Cliff and later in Toronto. Whether is was driving back and forth to the pool or frequent visits to your home and the annual Christmas Eve get togethers, he was aways kind and treated me like family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Liz Taus
