Dr. Istvan Marcell Waldmann October 26, 1926 – December 16, 2019. A longtime resident of Sudbury, passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents Marcell Albert and Blanka Waldmann (nee Lukacs) and his wife Klara Eva (nee Csillag). He is survived by his son Peter Istvan (wife Heather) and his daughter Marion Eva (significant other Oswald), as well as his grandchildren Rachel, Nathan, Daniela and Alin. Dr. Waldmann had a love of music, his favourite being classical chamber music. He was born to a family of musicians, including his mother, father and grandfather. He played the violin with many musical groups, both abroad and here in Canada. He also conducted the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra from time to time. He was a connoisseur of art in its many forms, including paintings, sculptures, etc., being an avid collector. He worked as a physician (Internal Medicine), having obtained his degree in his home country of Hungary (nee Budapest) and then here in Canada, settling in Sudbury in 1957. He was fascinated by the diagnostic challenge of uncovering the underlying root cause of patient’s illnesses. He was comfortable lecturing and teaching others, being a mentor to many in the medical field. He headed the Cardiology and Intensive Care departments at the St-Joseph's Health Center (formerly known as the Sudbury General Hospital), where he was Chief of Medicine for 15 years. He also worked for the MDS Laboratories reading ECG's for decades. Many thanks to all those who cared for Dr. Waldmann during his time of need. Special thanks to Dr. K. deBlacam, family physician and friend, as well as to his many friends who stayed in contact and visited over the years. You will be dearly missed by all.
