Obituary for Walter Stanley Sarty

In loving memory of Walter Sarty who passed away peacefully at St. Gabriel’s Villa on Tuesday, December 10th, 2019 at 97 years old. Walter was born in Lapland, Nova Scotia on August 27th, 1922 to Wallace and Eva Sarty. He served in the Armed Forces in World War II and married the love of his life (and War Bride) Irena Margaret Reid in Scotland in 1945. They came to Sudbury where Walter worked at the Sudbury Algoma Hospital, retiring in 1987. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, blueberry picking and raising chickens and pigs. Walter became a Christian in the early 1950’s and was a member of the Berean Baptist Church where he served the Lord faithfully and joyfully.
Walter was predeceased by his daughter Allison Esau (Carter) in 2000 and is survived by his daughters Heather Hood (Jamie), Bonny Philp (Jim), and Hella Bennett (Richard) and by his grandchildren June (Steve), Charles (Liane), Jennifer, Amy (Oneil), Jessica (Chris), David (Diana), James and Catherine (Joe) and by his nine great grandchildren.
Walter is also survived by his brothers Gerald and Wally (Myrlene) and predeceased by Elwood, Marjorie, Merrill, Dugald, Sylvia, Ruby and Clara.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Focus on the Bible or the Alzheimer Society (Sudbury) would be appreciated. The family wish to thank the staff of Meadowbrook Retirement Village and St. Gabriel’s Villa for the compassion and care shown to our dear father.
Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury where friends may gather from 2-4 and 6-8pm Thursday only. Funeral Service at Berean Baptist Church 231 Bloor Street, Sudbury, Friday, December 13th, 2019 at 10:30am. Interment in the family plot at the Park Lawn Cemetery.
