Obituary for Toini Jakola (Savolainen)
Toini Jakola (nee Savolainen) 1926-2019
Toini moved on to be with her Lord in the early morning of November 30, 2019 with family at her side.
She was born in Jakkima, Finland, the loving daughter of Heikki and Anna Savolainen (predeceased), and elder sister to Toivo, Teuvo and Aimo (predeceased). Toini and her husband Aleksander (predeceased 1978) immigrated to Canada in 1951 and made their home in Sudbury where they raised their boys Kari (Dorothy), Roy (Lydia) and Ralph (Lynn). She learned English very quickly and worked for many years in the cafeteria at the Memorial Hospital. Toini was an amazing cook, seamstress, knitter, gardener, blueberry picker and produced many lovely oil paintings. She had impeccable style but also thoroughly enjoyed camping, boating and fishing with the family.
Toini loved spending time celebrating special occasions, going to camp and having saunas with her grandchildren Kristin (Katrina), Joanna (Chris), Jason, Melissa (Ben), Vanessa (Tim), DerIk, Steven, Brittany (Connor) and Kody. Great grandchildren Nathaniel, Gemma, Sarah, Julia, Aili, Rachel and Benjamin were a source of great joy to her. She will be greatly missed by us all.
Toini was a member of the congregation at the Finnish Pentecostal Church for many years. She lived a simple life and found strength in her unwavering faith in God.
