Obituary for Rev. George Hunter

Rev. George Hunter
July 21, 1934 – November 19, 2019

It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the death of our beloved George.

After a brief illness with cancer our George died at Health Sciences North.

He was an ordained Presbyterian Minister. For 60 years of his life he served a number of church communities, initially in Southern Ontario, then in British Columbia for a few years. He transferred and settled in Sudbury, where he ministered at the Massey Presbyterian Church and the Hillside Presbyterian Church and the final years at Knox Presbyterian Church in Sudbury. During the time that he served the church communities he was also a full-time councillor at Cambrian College for 20 years. He was an accomplished artist and a great vocalist. He sang many solos at church services. George also served at the Lockerby Legion as Chaplain, and the Burwash Correctional Centre as Coordinating Chaplain for 2 years. The family would like to thank everyone who touched and enriched his life through friendship and prayers. We thank our God for all his blessings in his life. In grateful memory of his life and love remain his family; his wife and soul mate, Hildegard Hunter; his children, Frank Schmidt (Gloria), Steve Schmidt (Nancy), Ruth Hunter (Gord), Robert Schmidt, Tim Hunter (Tracy) and John Hunter (Tammie); his grandchildren, James Schmidt, Pamela Zmuda, Victoria Cole, Dylan Cunningham-Schmidt, Scott Cunningham-Schmidt, Sarah Hunter-Hibbs, Daniel Hibbs, Nicholas Hunter, Alicia Hunter, Jennifer Hunter, Jessica Cutler, Julie Denby and 13 great grandchildren.
