Obituary

In loving memory of Severo Zanatta who passed away peacefully after a brief illness with his family by his side on Tuesday, October 29th, 2019 at Health Sciences North at the age of 90. Known as “Mousey” to many; his small stature was in deep contrast to his larger than life personality, huge smile, generosity and presence.
Born in Coniston, Ontario, Severo was the son of Eugenio and Amabile Zanatta (nee Parolin) both predeceased. Husband of Louisa Zanatta (nee Pagan) of Sudbury. Loving father of Melissa Tibbett (Glenn) of Orillia, Leanna Graham (Dennis) of Toronto and Robert Zanatta of Sudbury. Cherished grandfather of Paige and Jordan Tibbett and Emily, Meghan and Evan Graham. Dear brother of Dina Chomyshyn (Harry) both deceased, Albino (Eleanor) of Fort Erie, Frank (Lorraine) of Copper Cliff, Eugenio Jr. deceased (Marilyn of Kitchener) and Allan (Grace) of Brighton. Severo worked at Inco for 36 years retiring in 1985. A man of great faith, he belonged to St. Andrew the Apostle Church and was a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He also was a long time member of the Copper Cliff Italian Club. Severo was a true family man always taking interest in what his grandchildren were doing and was the happiest when surrounded by family at home or during the summers at his second home on Downes Lake.
Visitation will be at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury where friends may gather on Thursday, November 7th, 2019 from 2-5 & 7-9pm. Vigil prayers will be held at 3pm on Thursday. Funeral Mass will be at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 1250 Barrydowne Rd., Sudbury on Friday, November 8th, 2019 at 10am.
If desired, donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation or Diabetes Canada would be greatly appreciated.

My condolences to Aunt Louisa, and to Melissa, Leanna and Robert . Severo was a good man and a positive influence on so many people. have many cherished memories of Sundays at the camp, and Christmas visits in the rec room. These events always involved kids running around and adults laughing together as part of an extended family.

Dear Louisa, Melissa, Leanna, Robert and the Zanatta family:

We are so sorry for your loss. Heaven has received a special angel and he will be missed. I would bump into him from time to time and he would always ask about my family and would fill me in on Louisa and his children. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

To the Zanatta family and my dearest friend. I’m saddened by the passing of Mr. Zanatta. He was such a positive influence in my life. I had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with him through my time together with Rob. His energy and positive disposition set an incredible standard. Yet his approach to it was as simple as could be. That’s what made it so special.
My big bowl of ice cream with assorted fixings, my hodgepodge of salty snacks during a game and my Hot Toddy while I’m sick, were taught to me by him :). Enjoy the little things to the fullest and it will take you a long way. As I reflect back, what a refreshing way to be, what a standard.

I cannot begin to comment on his love for Mrs. Zanatta, something I saw first hand, 65 years of an incredible life together, what a standard.

I don’t think I will ever be able to equal his achievements in volunteering, yet again another standard.

I take solace in reflecting on the memories he gave me and the standards he set. Soon the positive thoughts and memories overcome my sadness. Yet again, another standard.

Thank You Seve for being a part of my life. One day we’ll have a big bowl of ice cream with assorted fixings, a hodgepodge of salty snacks during a Red Wings game and a Hot Toddy, even though we’re no longer sick.

Love Johnny
