Johanne Burford (née Duchaine) passed peacefully early in the morning on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 at Health Sciences North surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Trois-Rivières, QC, Johanne is predeceased by her loving mother Jeanne Duchaine and grandmother Auréa Duchaine. Beloved wife of Les Burford, loving mother to Brian (Jessica) and Sean and cherished by Craig Fielding (Katriina). Beloved aunt to Kenneth Bregman (Sandra) and sister-in-law to Pieter Bregman (predeceased by Kathleen).
Deeply missed by her cherished aunts Gisèle Duchaine (Raymond) and Anita Peters (predeceased by Raymond) of Ohio; Uncle Mario Duchaine (Louise) of Trois-Rivières; Aunt Claudette Duchaine (predeceased by Marcel); predeceased by Aunt Thérèse and Uncle Glen Farquharson and Aunt Denise Petrov. Johanne always held her many cousins very close to her heart: Johanne Smith (Brian), Carol Pitre (predeceased by Yvon) and Pernell Duchaine (Carole) of Sudbury; Michelle Shannon (Dee), Nicole Duchaine, and Alain Duchaine (Gwen) of Ohio; Linda (Becky), Nyna (Maher), Maureen (John), June (Jim), Debra (Brian), Raymond (Annette), Gail (Bill), Pascale (Paul), Gary (Brandy), Nancy (Fernand) and Suzy (Jean).
Johanne will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her many second and third cousins whom she cherished greatly and kept in touch with throughout her life. She touched many lives throughout her time working at Laurentian University, the Canada Revenue Agency, and the Roman Catholic Diocese. In her retirement, Johanne loved having breakfast at AandW and she always spoke very fondly of her friends whom she met over breakfast.
A gifted creative writer, she found passion expressing herself through poetry. Johanne took great pride in commemorating her loved ones’ special occasions with her magnificently decorated cakes and delicious homemade pies. She found tremendous joy and peace walking the grounds and visiting with the animals at Northern Legacy Horse Farms.
Above all else, Johanne will be remembered for her boundless love and compassion. She always found the time and strength to support those she loved - no matter what, until the very end. Johanne touched the hearts of many.
The family wishes to thank the incredible team of nurses and doctors at the Health Sciences North Dialysis Unit - Johanne often spoke of her appreciation for the loving, caring and compassionate team of nurses who helped her through her dialysis treatments.
Friends may visit at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home at 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Thursday, Oct 24th, between 4pm-8pm. A funeral service will be held in the R.J. Barnard Chapel at Jackson and Barnard Funeral home on Friday, Oct 25th, at 11:30 am.
