Obituary for Verna Evelyn Thompson (Renaud)

Verna Evelyn Thompson (Renaud)

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Verna Thompson (Renaud), 82, on Wednesday, September 4th, 2019 at Health Sciences North. Beloved wife of 58 years to Eric Thompson predeceased (2018). Loving mother of Sharon Tansley (Barry), Patricia Thompson (Philip Martin), Sandra Thompson (Clyde Summers), Derek Thompson (Madeleine), and Tracy Thompson (Bruce Taylor). Cherished grandmother of Matthew, Makenna, Chloe, Liam, Austin, and Tyler. Dear daughter of Stella and Elwin Renaud (both predeceased). Dear sister of Lorraine McGregor (Roy), Eva Reeves (Cecil predeceased), Robert Renaud (Rowena), John Renaud (Joanne), and sister-in-law Greta Farrow (Mervin predeceased). Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Verna, an avid reader, worked at the Nickel Centre Public Library in Garson for 20 years. Throughout her career, Verna took great pride in helping children with their projects using the Dewey decimal system before the advent of computers. She enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends and no one ever left her table hungry. Verna always made sure the cookie jar was filled for dad and the grandchildren. She took pride in her children and grandchildren and was always there to give a helping hand. She loved her arts and crafts, and crocheted a number of kitchen towels for church teas and snowflakes which will adorn our Christmas trees for years to come. Verna was a member of the Catholic Womens’ League for 25 years and a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Garson.

The family would like to thank the staff of Walford on the Park in Copper Cliff, the nursing staff at Health Sciences North, 4th Floor South, and the physicians at the City of Lakes Family Health Team for the support and care of our mother.

Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
