Obituary for Nadia Maria Faggioni (Tassi)

NADIA MARIA FAGGIONI

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our devoted and loving Mother, Nonna and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Saturday, June 1st, 2019 at the Maison McCulloch Hospice. She left us after a brave and courageous struggle with cancer. We had the good fortune of her love and affection for 83 years.

Born in the Village of Viacce, near Fabriano in the province of Ancona, she witnessed incredible changes to her world, having lived through the war and the reconstruction of post-war Italy. She lived a modest life in a charming rural mountainous setting with her family, which was made up of her Father and Mother Vincenzo & Antonella Tassi (nee Perocchi) both predeceased, her brothers Domenico, Pietro and Ivo all predeceased and her sister Livia. She also had a half-brother Felice predeceased, who lived in the United States for most of his life. She married her loving husband Lanfranco Faggioni on April 2nd, 1959 and moved to Canada soon after to start a new life with her husband. She settled in Sudbury, where the couple soon became the proud parents of two sons – Marcel (Cheryl) and Peter (Silvia).

She was the beloved and proud grandmother (Nonna) to six wonderful grandchildren – Jordan (fiancée Kaytlin), Brianna (Billy), Anastasia, Justin (Stephanie), Mara (Connor) and Thomas. She also had a special place in her heart for her two nephews – Fernando and Robbie.

Nadia lived a full life as a wonderful mother and homemaker. She loved to cook elaborate Italian meals, kept an immaculate house, was highly skilled with knitting needles and crochet hooks, and she especially enjoyed her time going into the bush for blueberry/mushroom picking, hiking and/or hunting. A farm girl at heart, gardening was also a passion. She would spend most of her summers tending to her extremely productive garden and shared the fruits of her labour with her sons’ families and with friends. She was a member of the Caruso Club, l’Associazione Regionale Marchigiana and the CWL of St. Andrews the Apostle Church.

Most of all, she loved her family and instilled in both her sons strong values that served them well in raising upstanding grandchildren, who truly and unconditionally loved and admired their Nonna as she did them. The pain of losing such a wonderful human being is excruciatingly unbearable but we must take solace in knowing that she will definitely have a place in heaven, and until we meet again dear Mamma and Nonna, we will never forget you… You will always remain in our memories and in our hearts. God bless you Mamma and Nonna for all that you have done for us… you have made the world a better place for many!

The family would like to thank the staff of 5th floor south at Health Sciences North and the staff & volunteers at the McCulloch Hospice for their kindness, compassion and care.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 pm with parish prayers at 3 pm on Tuesday, June 4th, 2019 at the Lougheed Funeral Home (252 Regent Street, Sudbury). Funeral mass will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church (1250 Barrydowne Rd, Sudbury) on Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 at 10:00am. Entombment at the Civic Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Northern Cancer Foundation or Maison McCulloch Hospice are welcome. Online condolences may be expressed through www.lougheeds.org.
