Obituary for Michael Paul Jakubo

In Loving Memory of
Michael “Mike” Paul Jakubo
71 years
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our loving father and husband
at his home on April 4th , 2019.

Mike leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Jeanne (Soucek), the love of his life. He was so proud of
his children Jana (Mark Fritz) and Michael (Jody), and was a doting Gedo to his Grandsons Erik
and Malik and his princess Myla. Predeceased by his parents Michael and Mary Jakubo, he was
also a dear brother to Sister Mary Jakubo CSJ, Helen Huneault (Gilles) both predeceased, Anne
Taus (Romano), Joseph (Joan) and Edward (Cathy). Mike will be sadly missed by many nieces
and nephews and their families and is fondly remembered by all of his friends and anyone who
had the pleasure of knowing him.

Mike was an all-around athlete excelling in hockey, baseball and football; his dedication and
commitment to the game of hockey offered him a professional career playing in both the U.S.
and Europe. He was known as the ‘fastest skater’ and Mike’s speed and skill brought fans to
their feet chanting “Go, Go, Jakubo!” His love and passion for the game was passed on to the
many players he mentored during his time coaching.

After 25+ years working for the City of Greater Sudbury, Mike’s count-down to retirement came
to an end and he walked out of City Hall and onto the golf course. Mike golfed almost every day
and when he wasn’t golfing he was using his gift of gab as a Starter at Timberwolf, greeting every golfer that passed through.

Above all, Mike was a devout Catholic and family man. He loved deeply and was never shy in
telling his loved ones how much they meant to him.

There is nothing that Mike took more pride in than being an adoring Gedo to his
Grandchildren. He was never too tired for a game of catch, mini-sticks, pool, or a piggy back
ride. He was the loudest fan in the stands, and there will never be a doubt that he will always
be by our side.
