Obituary for Yvonne Marie Labine (Longlade)
Dear Mom:
No words can adequately describe the void you left behind when you slipped out of our world on March 24, 2019. You had been ailing for some time, but as was your way, you did so with dignity and without complaint, and concerned about the well-being of everyone else around you.
Those who were lucky enough to know you, knew you as Yvonne (Longlade) Labine, born in Britt, Ontario on January 21, 1945 to Anthony Longlade of Penetanguishene and Delia (Sangelais) Rolfe of Britt, both predeceased. Like your father, you loved playing baseball and, though small in stature, you were fiercely protective of those you loved.
In Sudbury, when you were just a teenager, you met the love of your life, Gerry Labine. You married on September 14, 1963 and made your life together. You struggled very hard to have children and your efforts eventually bore you two daughters.
Your family was your life and you made many sacrifices along the way. You would read to us girls until you lost your voice and you would color with us and teach us to draw. You would work graveyard shifts so that you were home to see us off to school and prepare us food when we came home for lunch. You were tireless to the very end.
You loved the Christmas season more than any other time of year. It gave you great pleasure to see the joy in those around you. You used to talk about your childhood winters in Britt and how magical the town would look under the fresh fallen snow.
But Christmas will never be the same again, mom. No day will ever be the same. We will mourn every moment we took you for granted, thinking that your strength made you invincible, that we could hear your voice, see your smile again tomorrow. One truly has no idea what they have until it’s gone. We will try to follow your example and be strong, but this world simply won’t be the same without you.

Yvonne is survived by her husband, Gerry; her daughters, Wendy Morin (husband Rick Morin) and April Labine; her grandchildren Brittany and Joe Morin (wife Ailani); her great-grandchildren, Cordelia and Ariana Morin; her siblings Alvina (Longlade) Aubertin (husband Pat), Colin Longlade (wife Karen) and Terry Rolfe (wife Barb). Her younger sister, Linda Longlade is predeceased.
As it was during their 55 years of marriage, Gerry was by Yvonne’s side to her last breath.
According to Yvonne’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS Society of Canada. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home.
