Obituary for Gwen Thomas
In loving memory of Gwen (Mary Gwendolyne) Thomas. Born May 23rd 1932 in Creighton Mine, Ontario. Passed away on Thursday, March 21st, 2019 at home.
Predeceased by her parents Sara and Jack Thomas. Survived by her sister Glenys and brother-in-law Ivan Cutler, nieces Gwen (husband Gary Pursey), and Janice, nephews Tom, and David (wife Sonia). Great aunt to Chris and Kyle.
In 1954 Gwen graduated from St. Michael's Nursing School in Toronto. She returned home where she began a long and successful career at the Memorial Hospital. The hospital was starting exciting work in those days and Gwen assisted in their first open heart surgery. She was part of a team that researched and developed specialty instruments for those procedures. She was a dedicated and professional nurse for almost 40 years. Gwen had many other passions including travelling, skiing, curling, volunteering, and baking. And, most importantly, her cottage in Bala, of which she was so proud. She cherished her time there with family and friends. That's where her heart was, on the Moon River.
She is deeply missed.

Cremation with interment in the family plot at the Park Lawn Cemetery.
