Alvin loved spending time with his family, playing his guitar, singing old songs, and tending to his garden. He was a hockey, baseball, and wrestling fan. In his younger days he was an avid fastball player. He spent many years volunteering on the Dowling Fire Department as a firefighter and first aid. He worked at INCO for over 36 years as a miner, in plant protection, and where he participated in and coached first aid.
