FORTIN, Joanne Elizabeth - In loving memory of Joanne Elizabeth Fortin, 53 years, Tuesday, January 1st, 2019 at Bridgepoint Active Healthcare.

Beloved spouse of Wendy of Toronto. Cherished daughter of Gary (predeceased) and Beth Fortin. Loving sister of Jack, Jim (Melonie), Tom, Louise, and Peter. Cherished aunt of Lee-Ann, Ryan, Terri, Tommy, Yousef, Romi, Dani, Nairn, Alyssa and great aunt of Vicki, Malina, Eliza, Layla and Heidi.
From her role on the winning national ringette team in 1980, to her medal as a Junior Ranger for saving a life in 1984, her long career as an occupational therapist and leader in stroke rehabilitation best practices, and even as she spent the last years of her life contending with metastatic breast cancer, treatment and disability, Joanne moved through her life with Hope, generosity, compassion, curiosity, and playful humour.
Joanne was an explorer who enjoyed taking on new challenges, meeting new people, trying new foods and seeking out special places. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her partner, and her dog Jetty, and especially, camping and hiking trips on the east coast.
Joanne touched so many in Sudbury, where she grew up, North Bay where she started her career, and Toronto where she continued her work. She will always be alive in the hearts of so many.

Joanne was my Junior Ranger leader and it was one of my best summer jobs because of her fun spirit. I’m glad we reconnected through Facebook. She seems to have touched a lot of lives and her memory lives on in all of us. We should all learn from her bravery and determination. My heart goes out to her family, may she Rest In Peace.

We had the privilege and pleasure of working with Joanne at the North Bay General Hospital. To our Rehab Team, Joanne was not only a coworker, but also a dear friend and a mentor. Her passion for her work and for learning was both admirable and inspiring. Joanne’s energy, sense of adventure and playful sense of humour drew both patients and coworkers to her. Joanne was a leader and a team player. She will be greatly missed by her North Bay Rehab Family. She is a true Rehab Angel.

As we watched the live streaming of Jo’s funeral service, I was amazed at the number of good friends whose lives she touched with her kindness, compassion and friendly nature. It is my sadness that I never really got to know my cousin. Rest In Peace as my thoughts are with you now. My condolences Wendy, Aunt Beth and family.... Joe & Catherine Martell
