Obituary for Peter Moutsatsos

Peter (Panagiotis) Moutsatsos, 83 years of age, passed away on Sunday June 3rd at Health Sciences North surrounded by his family.
Peter was born in the village of Metamorphosis, Laconia, Greece. After arriving in Canada in 1952, Peter, his brother George, and their Uncle Gus founded the Sudbury landmark, Gus’s Restaurant. Peter grew to love Canada almost as much as his family and was a very proud Canadian.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley (Chrisoule). They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary later this month. He was the loving and proud father of Steve (Jenny), and Faye (George) Adams and the proud Pappou to Sophia, Alexander, Mina, Peter, Christina, and Christopher. Peter is predeceased by his parents Stavros and Fotini, brother George, Uncle Gus Lagges and brother-in-law George Sakellaris. Devoted brother to Yianni (Dina) and beloved brother-in-law of Niki (George) Govatsos, Kosta Lagges, Aphrodite (George) Lafkas and Toula Sakellaris. He was the cherished uncle to many nephews and nieces.
After 40 years at the helm of Gus’s, Peter retired and found great joy in spending time at his summer homes on the French River or in Monemvasia, Greece. Peter’s lasting legacy can be found in everyone who was fortunate enough to enjoy his warm smile and extra-firm handshake, and especially in his grandchildren’s love of Greece.
The family would like to thank the staff at Health Sciences North, especially the 6th floor South Tower. An extra special thank you is extended to his dedicated family physician, Dr. K. DeBlacam, and to his caretaker, Sophie, for her outstanding care and compassion.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury on Thursday, June 7th from 3-8pm (prayers at 7 p.m.). Funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 8th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 486 Ester Road, with internment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peter and Shirley Moutsatsos Bursary at Laurentian University or St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church would be appreciated.
