Over ten years later, I still remember the March break I spent in Maurice’s classroom at Laurentian Driving School. His humour, passion for safe driving, and ability to make learning fun made that week a highlight of the eleventh grade. Getting a licence is a beloved rite of passage for every teenager, and Maurice had a gift for making sure that we took driving seriously, all while making us laugh. I have countless friends who learned to drive from him, and they have nothing but good things to say about him and his family. Who knows how many accidents were avoided, and lives saved, because budding drivers remembered to look for children’s feet between parked cars, or chose to take a cab home if they’d been drinking? I still remember to this day many of the lessons he taught me(with his famous dashboard-mounted camera), along with several generations of young drivers.
I had the pleasure of meeting Elaine, Louise, and Joel through the driving school as well, and their father’s love of life shone through in all of them. Condolences to the Quenneville family: He will be missed.
