Obituary for Mary Patricia Weaver (Munro)

In loving memory of Mary Patricia Weaver LLP (nee Munro) who passed away at Health Sciences North on Saturday, January 27th, 2018 at the age of 90. Predeceased by her husband Thomas Sheppard. Beloved mother of James Weaver, Mark Weaver (Carol) and Colleen Jakov (John). She cherished her two grandsons Ryan and David. Will be missed by her stepson Harry Sheppard (Sue). Mary is recognized as one of the first female lawyers in Northern Ontario. She is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School (1950). She was the first female partner in a firm in Northern Ontario retiring in 1995 from the firm Weaver Simmons LLP which still bears her name. She was very proud of her appointment to the Queen’s Council in 1979.A licenced pilot, Mary often would fly herself to places such as Gore Bay and Chapleau for her work. One of the pioneers for Thornloe University, she sat on their Board of Governors from 1983-87 and was the Thornloe Representative on the Laurentian University Council from 1991-99. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Mirka and the staff at HSN 4th floor Palliative Care in the North Tower for all their care of Mary throughout her illness and the staff at Southwind for their care for the past five years. At Mary’s request, there will be no visitation or service. If desired, donations to the Sudbury Art Gallery would be greatly appreciated.
