Obituary for
Hans Zappel
In Loving Memory
of
Hans Zappel
It is with great sadness that we announce his passing at his home on Saturday, September 3rd, 2016 at the age of 86.
“Hansel” came to Canada from Germany in 1951, eventually settling in Sudbury. This is where he met the love of his life Barbara, his wife of 59 years. After many years employed at INCO in Security and First Aid he took an early retirement. Having a life long passion for boating and sailing (he always claimed he was the first person to water-ski on Lake Ramsey!) the family enjoyed many weekends on local lakes especially Lake Penage. An avid traveler, his family had the pleasure of taking many vacations throughout the world.
Some of the best times in his life were living at Laurentian Village surrounded by friends and family where he was always the life of the party and liked to show off his classic dance moves.
Wanting his family to embrace his German culture, the annual trips to Oktoberfest in Kitchener became a family favourite which will continue for many years to come.
He loved and lived life to the fullest and will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him for his happy demeanour.
He is survived by wife Barbara (nee Holman), daughters Peggy (Geno) and Karen (Greg), son Daren.
Special Opi to Samantha, Spencer, Everett, Erich, Rianna, Heidi and Ava, and great grandson Joel. Special step-grandfather to Chris and Adam.
Many thanks to the doctors and staff at Health Sciences North, especially Dr. Costa Vitali.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to the Health Sciences North Foundation.
As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home.
