Obituary for
Helen Marie Irving (Husereau)
IRVING, Helen Marie (nee Husereau) born February 20 1931 passed peacefully on Saturday April 6, 2013 aged 82.
Beloved wife of William (Bill) Irving (predeceased 1978). Loving mother of Audrey Sunday (predeceased 1991), William (Carolyn Burn), Janet (Gordon White), Genevieve (Damian Adams) and Douglas (Anna Massimiliano).
Loving grandmother of Jason (Andrea Cundari), Lara (Brent Miglierina) and Duncan. Great-grandmother of Magnus, Peyton, Hurley, Sophia and Olivia. Daughter of the late Bernadette Husereau Hall and Camille Husereau. Sister of Bernice Belanger (predeceased), Clifford Husereau (predeceased), Jeanne Unruh, Phillip Hall (predeceased) and Peter Hall (predeceased).
Helen was a devout Catholic and was a great supporter of the Fatima Centre. She lived by the values instilled by her family as a child of the depression which manifested as a deep compassion for the homeless and an obvious concern for the less fortunate. She was known to stand strong by her values.
In spite of her vision limitations, she had no hesitation in taking up new challenges, including computers. She was a voracious reader and had a great intellect. Helen loved technology and her most recent acquisitions included an e-reader and an iPad, which allowed her to keep in touch with friends and family via face time and photo streaming. She began painting and drawing in her 70's and loved photography from an early age.
Her deep family ties led her to a fascination with her family tree, resulting in a research trip to archives in France.
She was a very social woman and enjoyed volunteering and supporting a number of different associations including Branch 76 of the Canadian Legion as well as the Rebekah Service Organization.
Favourite pastimes included a good game of Scrabble or cards. She treasured her time at the family camp and more recently at Trout Lake. She loved the water and spent many hours fishing.
Helen was widely traveled and enjoyed her many visits to Europe, Hawaii and Australia in addition to many road trips across Canada and the US.
During her life she faced a number of obstacles but her resilience, determination and fierce independence was an example to us all. This condensed portrait of her life would not be complete without mentioning her outstanding sense of humour.
Above all, Helen deeply loved her family and in turn, was deeply loved by them.
