Obituary for Kenneth William Robblee

Kenneth William Robblee
Kenneth William Robblee
Born September 11, 1923 Spalding, Saskatchewan
Died October 22, 2016 Sudbury, Ontario

Kenneth “Ken” William Robblee 93, of Sudbury, Ontario, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Health Sciences North. He was born September 11, 1923 in Spalding, Saskatchewan, the son of the late Rueben James Robblee and the former Jessie Irene Mills both from Prince Edward Island. He is survived by his sister-in-law Betty Robblee and predeceased by his brother, Victor Robblee, sister Vera and brother-in-law Fred Schloendorf.

He married Margaret Anna Yeck at London, Ontario, on July 22, 1950. She predeceased him on September 16, 2000. They had two children: Joan and her partner Gerald Seguin of Lively, Ontario, and Gord and his wife Vicky of Naughton, Ontario, and three grandsons, Adam (Ashley), Ryan and Byron (Sarah) and three great grandchildren Arianna, Alivia and Arya.

In 1952 is was hired by Air Liquide as an oxygen ramp operator. He later transferred to the position of a bulk driver, delivering oxygen to hospitals and businesses in Southern Ontario. In 1969, he transferred to Sudbury, Ontario as Manager of the Acetylene and Oxygen plants. He retired from Air Liquide in 1980 and remained in Sudbury.

Ken will be remembered for his love of his wife and children. He also had a passion for all things mechanical. If it had an engine, he could fix it. He remembered travelling to Regina in the early 1930s with his father. They purchased a 1928 Model T. Ford. When they returned home, he and his father removed the back of the car using only chisels and hacksaws. They built a wooden box and converted the car into a truck. Later in the 1950s Ken was involved in stock car racing in the London area with his brother and brother-in-law. When you went to visit Ken, if he was not working on a motor, he was sitting in the garage beside his car.

Burial will be Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Dorchester Union Cemetery at 10:00am. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Dorchester Donnybrook Branch 513. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Lung Association of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Home, 252 Regent Street, Sudbury, (705) 673-9591.
