MARY (Marija) PORYCKYJ
In loving memory of Mary Poryckyj who passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 30th, 2015 at HSN hospital, with her loving family by her side. Loving mother of Olga Renzini (husband Ronald), Veronica Zager (husband Marty predeceased) and Wasyl (Bill) (predeceased in 2005).
Cherished Baba of Alicia Maschio (husband Chris), Derek Renzini (financee Jennifer), Andrei Poryckyj (wife Leah), Andrea Butler (husband Lee), Lara Poryckyj, Nadia Zack and Renee Zager. Proud great grandmother of Mia & Luca Maschio and Ava & Sienna Poryckyj. Dear Aunt of Steven Shebtschuk and his children Alana & Lauren. Special sister-in-law to Marie (Kulyk) Shebtschuk. Dear cousin of Borys Demchuk and Wally (predeceased)
Predeceased by her husband Andy, her brothers George Shebtschuk of Dowling and Wasyl of Romania, her parents Dominica and Nykolai Shebtschuk.
Mary was born April 7 1929 in Horodji Bukovena Ukraine. Circumstances during the war would find her family enroute to Germany. She then immigrated to Canada with son Wasyl when her husband secured employment in the mining industry in Sudbury.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church and in her younger days an active member in fundraising and cooking at the church’s Villa Maria camp. She was also an active member of The Ladies organization League of Ukrainian Canadians. Proud of her Ukrainian Heritage she passed on the Ukrainian traditions to her children and grandchildren.
Resting at the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home 233 Larch St. Sudbury. Visitation Friday, July 3rd, 2015 from 6 -8pm and Panakhyda (Prayers) 7 pm. Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 40 Notre Dame Avenue, Saturday, July 4th, 2015 at 10:30 am with interment at the Civic Cemetery. A luncheon reception will follow at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church Hall. In lieu of flowers donations to the Charity of Your Choice or St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
